Who are you?
My name is Elizabeth Chastain Berg and I am the new addition here at mac & murphy. I moved to Charleston almost six years ago from Athens, Georgia with a short stint in Jackson, Wyoming in between. I live here with my husband and our quirky Golden Retriever, Zoey.
What do you do outside mac & murphy?
I design invitations. I am currently working on a letterpress wedding suite and two baby announcements. Weddings and babies keep me pretty busy!
If you were a color, what color would you be?
Grey (or Gray?). Is it a color or a shade? Whatever it is, it’s the perfect neutral. And neutrals are everything. Adam Duritz from The Counting Crows agrees (Well you know grey is my favorite color…). Don’t judge. You know you owned that album.
If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
I think I was a fish in my past life. I really love being in the water. But maybe a manatee? They get to be fat and cute at the same time.
If you were an appetizer, what appetizer would you be?
Ami and Liz, this is a weird one. I guess I will pick my favorite appetizer, which is chips and salsa. I like my salsa with a ton of cilantro and fresh jalepeno.
Answer this: Never would I ever…
Take or post a “selfie”.
What is your favorite thing to do in Charleston?
Waking up early on Saturday morning for breakfast at Lost Dog Cafe and then a day at the beach with friends.
What is your favorite place in Charleston
to hang outside of work?
We lived at Genes during the winter months but summer is here and I like to be outside on a good patio. Some of my favorite spots are Fuel, Al Di La, Xiao Bao Biscuit, and Juanita’s.
Earlier this year, Smock Paper released their “Change the World” series. There are three designs in the series, each dedicated to a different environmental issue. 100% of the profits are donated to non profits who support these issues. Each set is packaged with a free gift.
Profits from the first card in the series, Sunflower, are donated to the Pesticide Action Network North America to address Colony Collapse Disorder and help save honey bees. This set comes packaged with a packet of sunflower seeds.
The profits from the series second card, Fracking, helps Earthworks’ Oil & Gas Accountability Project change the gas and oil industry in order to protect the environment and our drinking water. This set includes a temporary anti- fracking tattoo.
The third card in the series, Fin, will help the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, a program that engages and empowers consumers and businesses to purchase seafood that is fished or farmed in ways that minimize their impact on the environment. This set includes a sustainable seafood guide.
Each set includes 6 fold over notecards with corresponding lined envelopes.
They are letterpressed on bamboo paper.
Come by the shop and help change the world!
Happy Memorial Day everyone! We wanted to write a little note of appreciation to our troops. Thank you to all the men and women who are currently serving our country.
This set of 12 cards from Mr. Boddington’s Studio includes hand lined envelopes and are the perfect way to show your appreciation.
We hope you are enjoying your holiday!
Sadly, today is my last day here at mac and murphy. And, rather than spending my last moments with my head in my books and studying for finals, I have chosen to spend my days wandering throughout the streets of Charleston, acting like a tourist, and enjoying every last second of every day. This past week I took a couple of study breaks and went to my favorite local spots while enjoying the company of friends and of course Ami and Liz. Thursday, we decided to take a little getaway and head to the beach at Sullivans Island and grab a good bite to one of our local faves Poes Tavern.
We had a fabulous night. I couldn’t have asked for a better farewell dinner and great night of celebrating graduation! We laughed so hard we cried and, like always, the girls left me with the best bits of advice before starting my adventures at my new job in Dallas.
The past few days have been filled with both tears of joy and sadness. But, as I sit here, writing amidst the beautifully colored paper, amazing stationery, and a delicious smelling fig + vanilla candle I realize that the biggest reward has been meeting inspirational and hardworking women like Liz and Ami. They have shown me so much and I have grown so much from this experience at mac and murphy.
SO, I WANNA END THIS POST WITH ONE LAST THANK YOU!!!
OH! And here’s a little video I thought you readers might like about the power of friendship.
Till next time,
Andy aka ‘the shop girl.’
