Farewell Friends…

tumblr_maz381DQWf1qfoqejo1_1280

Sadly, today is my last day here at mac and murphy. And, rather than spending my last moments with my head in my books and studying for finals, I have chosen to spend my days wandering throughout the streets of Charleston, acting like a tourist, and enjoying every last second of every day. This past week I took a couple of study breaks and went to my favorite local spots while enjoying the company of friends and of course Ami and Liz. Thursday, we decided to take a little getaway and head to the beach at Sullivans Island and grab a good bite to one of our local faves Poes Tavern.

We had a fabulous night. I couldn’t have asked for a better farewell dinner and great night of celebrating graduation! We laughed so hard we cried and, like always, the girls left me with the best bits of advice before starting my adventures at my new job in Dallas.

The past few days have been filled with both tears of joy and sadness. But, as I sit here, writing amidst the beautifully colored paper, amazing stationery, and a delicious smelling fig + vanilla candle I realize that the biggest reward has been meeting inspirational and hardworking women like Liz and Ami. They have shown me so much and I have grown so much from this experience at mac and murphy.

SO, I WANNA END THIS POST WITH ONE LAST THANK YOU!!!

OH! And here’s a little video I thought you readers might like about the power of friendship. :)

Till next time,

Andy aka ‘the shop girl.’

Happy Earth Day Y’all

We would love to thank everyone who came to visited us this past week at our sidewalk sale. Not to mention, the lovely weather inspired us to spend more time outside and enjoy the beautiful breeze that literally blew our merchandise and table away! We also realized that sometimes, stepping outside and enjoying some fresh air is the best therapy. Plus, now that the farmer’s market is open, we have been inspired to find the time to go to the market and pick some fresh fruits and vegetables, picnic at a fun local park or garden, spread out some blankets, and enjoy a fresh summery cocktail with some friends. This earth day, we would like to ask you one question: How do you like to spend your day’s outside? Do you like to wake up early and enjoy a good cup of coffee on a sunny porch, plant some fresh flowers or vegetables in a garden, or listen to the waves crash

Well, Hello There Finkelsteins!

PicMonkey CollageWe stocked up on these little guys last week during a field trip to The Finklestein’s Center. These handmade creatures are definitely one of our local favorites here in Charleston and we are so proud to carry them in our shop. Michelle Jewell, the creative director for Finkelstein’s quit her day job, decided to open up her own business to do what she loves best! By using purely organic materials and recycled fabrics, Michelle creates these cute plush animals and creatures through her own imagination. From pigs, sheep, bears, alligators, giraffes, raccoon’s to even mermaids and pirates, they make the most awesome companions. And her creative designs aren’t just for kids; Liz and Ami have their own Finkelstein’s and are just in love with them. We firmly believe that giving a handmade doll can be one of the most special gifts so take one home or gift a loved one today, and it love you forever.

It’s about that time.  The brightly colored tulips have bloomed and the sun is finally peeking out. Today marks the beginning of April, which means Graduation is just around the corner.

Unfortunately, for me, that only means I will be leaving Mac & Murphy soon. Beginning in May, I will be moving back to my hometown, Dallas, and starting a new job. Truth be told, I have been getting some serious anxiety. For some reason the whole ‘growing up’ idea has me at serious fright.

As soon as I walked into the shop today with a huge case of the Mondays and a large cup of coffee at hand, Liz knew. I told her how nervous I was about starting a new job and the stress of finding a new apartment but, she calmed me and gave me one of the best words of advice. She reminded me that new beginnings call for new adventures.

Thanks Liz!

Have a great Monday! Here are a few of my favorite’s to jump-start your week.

1. Bad hair don’t exist for us. We always believe there’s an answer. We like to call it ‘the mac & murphy bun…

2. Because I believe that the smallest little details make a difference when it comes to decorating. I can’t wait to decorate my apartment.

3. I am way past overdue on visiting my sister in NYC. Ok, now I am booking my flight.

4. Too many flowers doesn’t exist in my life, ever.

5. That’s some seriously awesome artwork.

6. My favorite item at the shop right now.

7. Great song for those April showers.

laters,
